Mysteriously my site collection has disappeared and the content database shows 0 site collections.

Recovering a missing SharePoint site collection

Follow the below solutions:

  1. Refresh the content database
    • In the SharePoint Central Administration, navigate to the Manage Content Databases section.
    • Select the content database containing the missing site collection and click Refresh Database.
    • This will force SharePoint to re-scan the content database and update the site collection count.
  2. Check recycle bin
    • In the SharePoint Central Administration, navigate to the Recycle Bin section.
    • Search for the missing site collection and check if it has been moved to the Recycle Bin.
    • If found, you can restore the site collection from the Recycle Bin.
  3. Mount and dismount the content database
    • In the SharePoint Central Administration, navigate to the Manage Content Databases section.
    • Select the content database containing the missing site collection and click Mount Database.
    • Wait for the database to mount successfully, then click Dismount Database.
    • This process can help address any potential database corruption or synchronization issues.
  4. Ensure the Availability Group (AG) is Synchronized
    • If your SharePoint environment is using SQL Server Availability Groups (AGs), ensure that the AG containing the content database is properly synchronized.
    • Check the AG status in the SQL Server Management Studio and troubleshoot any synchronization issues.
    • Verify that the secondary replica is up-to-date and that the primary replica is accessible.
  5. Restore the Site Collection from Backup (if available)
    • If you have a recent backup of the content database, you can restore it to recover the missing site collection.

After following these steps, the missing site collection should be recovered and shown in the SharePoint central administrator and the content database.
