The number of items on this list exceeds the List View Threshold, which is 5,000 items

Question

I got this error "The number of items on this list exceeds the List View Threshold, which is 5,000 items. Tasks that cause server overload (such as those that include all menu items) are now blocked". when I read a SharePoint list in Power BI SSRS report.

 

I checked the list settings I found the list threshold is more than 5000 items as below

To avoid this error The number of items on this list exceeds the List View Threshold, which is 5,000 items, you have to Increase the SharePoint List threshold from Central Administration.

Please know that thresholds exist for a reason, however, and from a scalability viewpoint, this may not be the best action to take as it can affect performance.

Steps

• Go to Central Admin.
• Under “Application Management” click “Manage Web Applications”.

• Select the web application for which you’re adjusting the list view threshold

• Select “General Settings” then “Resource Throttling”

• Change the limit and click OK

• Check the result by going to “List Settings” for any list on that web application

• Go back to your report, it should be working now!
